 Dr. Markzar's pre-doctoral education started at University of Southern California (USC), majoring in Biology & Biochemistry in 1987. He achieved his Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery & Oral Medicine (D.D.S., 4 yrs.) with honors, at USC School of Dentistry. He immediately passed the state boards and started practicing general dentistry in order to familiarize himself with the challenges and needs of practicing general dentists and other specialists. He then completed 3 years of post-graduate residency in Advanced Periodontology, Oral Implantology & Surgery at U.S.C. .
He received his Certificate of specialty training (CGS) and then completed the courses for Masters of Science degree (M.S.) in Craniofacial Biology at U.S.C. .
Dr. Markzar's quest for advanced education has continued with numerous educational courses and the most updated techniques in advanced Periodontics, microsurgery, and Implantology. He is constantly looking for the most definitive and updated treatments, not only in periodontal, but in other dental fields.
Dr. Markzar is also an active educator, and currently holds a teaching position as Clinical Assistant Professor of Periodontology and Implantology at USC, Dept. of Advanced Periodontics, Division of Surgery. He is also a specialty board member at Delta Dental Care of California, Peer Review Committee, and chief member at credentialing review board.
Dr. Markzar has also written many articles about the relationships between periodontal diseases and systemic involvements (such as Diabetes & Cardiovascular diseases), Periodontal diseases in families, and esthetic periodontal/Implant therapy.
Dr. Markzar is an active member of American Academy of Periodontology (A.A.P), American Dental Association. Academy of Osseointegration. California Dental Association, and Los Angeles Dental Society.
Parallel to his clinical and academic activities, Dr. Markzar is a professional drawing artist. He has collaborated as a professional calligraphist for entertainment industry, including the Disney Studios. He also loves playing his Piano, and he is an avid tennis player.!
